Connecting Women in Recovery for 10 Years

A2WG is 10 years old! Certainly a reason for celebration!

The Ann Arbor Women’s Group was incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation in February 2007.

Who could have predicted back then the success we would have – monthly events for fun and/or education for women in recovery, free child care at 12 step meetings, an annual 3-day retreat and an overnight retreat, an annual comedy show, an annual family picnic and (most importantly) scholarships for women whose finances are tight so that all women are able to participate.

I remember when you told us. “I think I’m an alcoholic,” your email said. You were in college, studying abroad and scared. I was thousands of miles from you, in graduate school. I had, that night, been working in the school’s computer lab, only a few weeks away from earning a master’s degree and enamored with a new boyfriend, new job and new life. With that email, I wondered if it was all about to come crashing down.

Mona Lisa Smile

Today is Election Day and this has been a very stressful election for many. According to the American Psychological Society, 52% of Americans are experiencing some sort of election related stress.

If you are feeling stressed, angry, fearful or any other negative emotion, there is a quick, easy technique you can use to turn that frown upside down (literally). It’s called “Half-smile.” It’s also sometimes refers to as the Buddha smile or Mona Lisa smile.
