Let Us Entertain You 2015
On January 16, 2016, the Ann Arbor Women’s Group hosted the annual Movie and Ice Cream event “Let Us Entertain You”. This year, 22 women came for fun and fellowship, and of course, the ice cream! Registration was online and a suggested donation was all that was needed to enjoy quality time with other women in recovery. The women met up at the Coffee House Creamery and others provided rides from Maple Rock. This was a great way to get connected to women in the community and to have fun in sobriety. The movie was Joy with Jennifer Lawrence (trailer), the inspirational story of a woman entrepreneur who invented the Miracle Mop and the adversities she faced along the way and how she overcame them. Join us next year for more movies and ice cream. It is an experience you don’t want to miss!

Newcomer tip #8: Finding a Sponsor
This is a blog series that will be focusing on one tip every few days for newcomers. These tips are not a replacement for going to meetings and working the 12 steps. They are to be used in addition to meetings and steps. The first few months of sobriety are hard. These are some ways to help get you through it.
The last blog was about the importance of developing some discipline in our lives. We need to have a daily agenda and routine and stick to it. Today’s newcomer tip is about finding a sponsor.
Pleases Note: I’m going to be discussing sponsorship from the 12 step fellowship perspective. There are other types of recovery but I don’t have experience with them and I can’t share knowledge that I don’t have. If someone reading this blog has experience with other type of recovery programs and sponsorship, please share about it in the comments section below.
The weather was “iffy” for our berry picking event but we decided to take the chance and luck was with us. Berry Hill Farm owners Jim and Nancy were there to greet us. They outfitted us with our “picking gear” – a cutoff gallon milk container and piece of cord used to tie the container around our waist.
Ten adults and ten children enjoyed the the fresh air, the sun peeping through the ever changing cloud formations — and of course the rows and rows of ripe raspberries. Another relaxing sober afternoon – a “berry” good time was had by all.[metaslider id=1954]

Newcomer Tip 6: Getting Connected
This is a blog series that will be focusing on a tip every few days for newcomers. These tips are not a replacement for going to meetings and working the 12 steps. The last blog was about getting Higher Powered, how to connect with your higher power. Today we will discuss the benefits of being involved in the recovery community.
Join a *support group – whether you join a Christian based group, like Celebrate Recovery or 12 step groups like AA or NA, it’s essential to get a social support network. A recovery network can provide wonderful value, help and wisdom to your recovery efforts. On the Resource Page there is a list of women’s meetings and links to different groups in the Washtenaw County area.
